About Ramsay Blog
Ramsay Marine is a company built on the experience of Richard Ramsay. Richard served his apprenticeship in Chatham Naval Yard in England from 1970 to 1974, and served an extra two years until 1976. At 15 years old, his apprenticeship as a fitter and turner conveyed all aspects of Marine Engineering. This basis stood him in good stead for the years ahead.
In the years to follow, Richard’s career covered a wide range of Engineering projects from Sea going Engineering to major industrial new construction projects. Richard’s experience stemmed from Naval yard, Ships, Power Plants, Refineries, Paper Mills, Foundries, Inside and Outside Machine Shops, etc. At 24 he moved to the United States. His skills realised he was soon running a thirty man new construction and shut down crew. As pictures are said to be worth a thousand words, if you navigate the Ramsay Marine website you can see some of his past achievements. Richard’s wife Muriel also has a ’sea’ of knowledge, having built her own boat and sailed the Seven Seas. Muriel had worked painting boats, “rolling and tipping” her way in Florida for many years. Richard has banned her from painting now and she spends her time making sure that the office is running smoothly.
Muriel and Richard have passed on their skills and experiences to their two boys, Scott and Brad. Scott and Brad have just finished a two year refit of the sailing Yacht Summer Wind where they refitted and installed may of the systems including a new hydraulic propulsion system.
